We are opening a new chapter and bringing to Brno a piece of Finland, where a legendary story from the Nordic fables and legends will come to life. Scandinavian minimalism and respect for nature, man and the modern city - all this is reflected in our first project in South Moravia, where the story of KALEVALA is about to be written...

The KALEVALA complex is a tribute to our Finnish roots and local traditions. The name therefore draws inspiration from the Finnish national epic of the same name, which in a collection of folk songs summarises the local mythology. The stories honour the Finnish gods, who embody the forces of nature, justice and human wisdom, while at the same time narrating about determination, solidarity, the search for stability and harmony between man and nature. Although these are ancient myths from the north of Europe, these values are still current and resonate even in the current Czech reality.

The project will be going up on a five-hectare plot by Šedova Street on the border of the Vinohrady and Židenice city districts. The KALEVALA residential complex consists of approximately 750 apartments, which will be built over a total of nine stages, on which the unique face of runic symbolism and naming according to specific Finnish gods will be imprinted.

The buildings will thus bear the names of Ukko (the supreme god of Kalevala and at the same time the protector of the heavens and lightning), Otso (the guardian of nature who takes the form of a bear), Mielikki (the lady of the forest who helps Otso to maintain control over the entire dominion), Tuulikki (the forest maiden and daughter of Mielikki, who cares for the proper cycle of nature and life), Nyyrikki (the god of hunting and game), Kuutar (the goddess of the moon, who brings its beneficial power and light to the Nordic lands), Ilmatar (the creator of the universe and the mistress of the wind), Sampsa (the god of the harvest, who planted everything that grows on this earth) and Ahti (the god of water).

KALEVALA is a mythological story, the basis of which is based on the same values ​​as modern life.

Apartment layouts

The new district of KALEVALA from YIT will bring Finnish housing, where the power of nature meets modern urban life. The project's philosophy is built on the principle of “slow living” (less hurrying, more being) and offers an environment where you can slow down, recharge your batteries and be yourself.

Cozy one-room to spacious four-room apartments, all with kitchenettes, will be on offer. The first stage has a building permit and we plan to begin its construction in the autumn of 2025.

An attractive urban locality

A brownfield will be transformed from a neglected plot into a new modern neighbourhood with amenities that will serve both new and existing residents. The KALEVALA project will also include a pedestrian zone, thanks to which a historical connection of the Židenice and Vinohrady city districts will take place. This will contribute to their better accessibility and significantly increase the comfort and quality of life in the entire area. Excellent transport accessibility is also a benefit. In a few minutes you can reach the enter of Brno – by car, tram or trolleybus. Within five minutes you can also reach the Brno-Židenice train station.

Civil amenities

The surroundings of the KALEVALA project offer great civic amenities and plenty of opportunities for leisure activities. There are also preschools, primary schools, medical facilities, restaurants, cafés, shops and other services nearby. The nearby Bzzzukot complex with a playground, a bouldering wall, a pump track and parkour route and a skatepark is a popular place for active relaxation and encounters. There are often also various events, concerts and festivals held here. Sports lovers will appreciate the fitness center and outdoor gym in the vicinity. A social and sports center, which you can walk to in a few minutes, also offers a varied leisure program, with bowling, a golf simulator, beach volleyball courts, adventure golf and a restaurant with a summer terrace.

In contact with nature

The KALEVALA complex in the Finnish style will offer a quiet place to live full of greenery. There will be plenty of flowers, shrubs and trees, including an alley of cherry trees. Of course, all the plants will be provided with professional care.

The surroundings of the project also offer a number of possibilities where you can go to enjoy nature. On the way to the Bzzzukot complex, for example, you will pass through a popular row of trees. You can go for a pleasant walk to White Mountain, Židenice Hill or Stránská Rock, from where you can enjoy beautiful panoramic views of the entire city. You can also visit the popular Bohumil Hrabal Park, named after the famous local native son, and look for the carved owls that decorate some of the trees.

Pure nordic architecture

The sophisticated timeless design emphasizes simplicity and respect for natural materials while creating a space for neighborly gatherings and quiet living where everyone finds a place for themselves. Several commercial premises, a central square, playgrounds and play areas, relaxation zones and newly planted greenery, including alleys, will be going up as part of the complex.

All the details were thought through so that they were not only aesthetic but also functional. KALEVALA will become a natural part of the public space. Connecting Líšeňská and Věstonická streets will provide a comfortable pedestrian route that will make it easier for the new residents to move between the different parts of the complex, while also supporting natural encounters between neighbors.
